Shingles, herpes, chickenpox?
Shingles usually expressed as a hurting sweltering outbreak on the skin. It is triggered by the equivalent bug as chickenpox scientifically named varicella zoster. Individuals that had 
chickenpox may face an attack of shingles on some day of the life. This happens because after the original illness (chickenpox), the varicella zoster bug still present in the body in the inactive form. Usually, varicella settles in the roots of the spinal nerves on either side of the spine. Any event that can influence the stability of the immune system may result in the awakening of the virus. The virus develops, become active and aggressive, reproduces itself and drifts down along the nerve roots and injuring the nerves’ tissue as well as the skin in the region innervated by that nerve. The skin is the most affected tissue. Because the herpes infection migrates through the sensory nerves, severe pain is the most common symptom.
So, what happens to the immune system and why the varicella herpes virus waking up for no reason? The most common reason for those attacks is aging. That’s why we observe herpes mostly in mature or elderly individuals and almost never in youth. Also, the immune system can fail temporarily as a result of severe stress, after long-lasting infection diseases, and even after a simple cold.
Also, some immunosuppressants widely used for the treatment of eczema, rheumatoid arthritis, and in a post-transplanting phase of some surgical treatments can result in shingles. Herpes / Shingles are not transmissible; however, individuals that have not had chickenpox may get this infection and experience.
An outbreak of shingles is commonly started with tackling and lack of feeling in the part skin of skin in which an attack will start shortly. Also, 60% of patients report burning discomfort for a few weeks prior to skin eruptions. Some individuals, however, experience pain only after the skin signs show up. The skin eruptions appear in the form of large or small spots and usually asymmetrically. The localization can be different and does not mean anything. The Very common place is a trunk of the body; however, I had patients with flares on the head under the hair, on arms and legs. The eruptions are getting bigger during the first week of sickness. Then these outbreaks transform into blisters filled with fluid and then in a couple of weeks these skin elements dry out. Dry blisters enclose no viruses and are not contagious. After approximately a month the bout settles and pain usually diminishes.
Throbbing is a practically consistent symptom of the shingles attack, accentuating that although the apparent symptoms related to the skin, however, the definite illness progression is in the nerves. The severity of pain sometimes is enormous. In different countries, shingles have specific nicknames. In Norway, they call it “belt of roses from hell”. The Denmark version is “hellfire”. It shows how terrible an outbreak of shingles can be. Patients refer to the pain as severe, piercing, boiling hot, penetrating, and intense! On the odd occasion, shingles may cause no pain and very seldom patients report pain without skin outbreaks. In those cases, the diagnosis can only be set based on biochemical and virological results.
Traditional Western treatment of shingles put its faith in anti-viral medicines. One of the most popular remedies from this class is Acyclovir. It is recommended to start taking this medicine at the very beginning of the shingles attack. Other groups of drugs used by Conventional Medicine are “Painkillers” and “anti-inflammatories”.

The most important points in acupuncture are remote points and not local and if in the case of non-shingles lower back pain we usually insert a few needles in the lower back part of the body in case of shingles skin eruption we don’t.
