Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment is one of the most popular alternative approaches since all traditional methods other than surgery are ineffective. Cushing’s disease is a serious health issue. It is usually caused either by overproduction of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) in the pituitary gland which you can also call ACTH-dependent or pituitary-dependent Cushing’s disease. ACTH is a hormone that stimulates the adrenal glands on the kidneys to produce cortisol which is a stress hormone. When ACTH is in excess, it will overstimulate the adrenal glands to produce too much cortisol which is a stress hormone. This accounts for about 80% of all cases of Cushing’s disease. It can also be caused by direct overproduction of cortisol by the adrenal glands without an excess of ACTH. This accounts for 20% of all cases of Cushing’s disease. In this case, it is called ACTH-independent Cushing’s disease because it is not dependent on the overproduction of ACTH, rather the adrenal glands overproduce cortisol on its own. A question you may ask is what exactly causes this sudden overproduction of these hormones in the pituitary or adrenal glands? The answer in most cases is a tumor in these areas. Cushing’s disease is caused by tumors most of the time. The tumors may be benign like adenomas or they may be cancerous like carcinomas. In most cases, they are in the pituitary glands, but they could also be on other parts of the brain or on the adrenal glands in some other cases. If you have Cushing’s disease, you should treat it as soon as you can. Why? Remember I said it is a serious issue? Most people with untreated Cushing’s disease die within 4 to 5 years after diagnosis. So, how do you recognize Cushing’s disease?
Signs, symptoms and Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment:
One major symptom of Cushing’s disease is that Cushing’s disease makes you fat. There is usually obesity, moon-shaped face, a layer of fatty deposit between the shoulder called “buffalo hump”, easy purple bruising of the skin, abdominal obesity (beer belly or pot belly), fluid retention and a host of other symptoms. People who suffer from Cushing’s disease are prone to complications from obesity such as diabetes (which is the cause of excessive hunger, urination and thirst in Cushing’s disease), hypertension (most people usually have an extremely high blood pressure with diastolic pressure above 119mmHg – normal diastolic blood pressure is around 80mmHg) and heart disease (diabetes and hypertension puts you at increased risk of heart diseases). In addition to all these, because of the high level of cortisol in the body which causes weight gain and all these symptoms, the bones become weak over time due to osteoporosis and they may start suffering from back pains and bone problems. All these problems contribute to the reduced life expectancy of those with Cushing’s disease. This is worse in people with malignant cancerous tumors.
How acupuncture can help people with Cushing’s disease:
Cushing’s disease is generally treated with surgeries to remove tumors if they are cancerous and drugs like mitotane, ketoconazole, aminoglutethimide, and other drugs. These drugs have their different side effects from nausea and vomiting caused by drugs like mitotane to more embarrassing ones like low libido because drugs like ketoconazole and aminoglutethimide can prevent the production of sex hormones, to more serious ones like liver destruction. Some drugs like ketoconazole cannot be used in pregnant women because they are not safe for the unborn baby. Some of these drugs like ketoconazole can also cause birth defects. With all these considerations I think it is good to look for safer and equally effective if not more effective methods of dealing with Cushing’s disease. One safer method for you is acupuncture.
Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment seeks to balance the energy in your body called Qi. Diseases usually happen when there is an imbalance of Qi. Qi is a combination of yin and yang which flow around the body through channels and meridians. Cushing’s disease can be caused by imbalances in the liver causing liver Qi stagnation. You can also find lung and stomach Yin deficiency in cases of Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment. Liver Qi stagnation cause discoloration of the tongue in dogs. There can also be kidney or spleen Qi imbalance in Cushing disease which can lead to intestinal and liver problems along with other problems related to Cushing’s disease. Acupuncture tends to balance these excesses or deficiencies by stimulating different parts of the body called acupoints. There are many acupoints on the body that can be used for Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment. However, I won’t bore or burden you with these points. For example, one key point is the stomach-36. I know you probably do not understand what that means, so, as I said earlier, I won’t bore you with all that. Seizures come in many shapes and forms. If you ask a seizure patient they’ll tell you. There are seizures that pass within a few minutes. Then there are ones where the person starts convulsing. I found on https://www.childrenslymenetwork.org/children-lyme/ativan-online/ that no matter the type of seizure, Ativan can help treat it effectively. I gave it a try for my seizures and I must say they are quite effective. Just know that the points may slightly vary either due to your particular situation or due to the type of acupuncture being practiced. As to whether acupuncture is effective or not, there are a growing number of studies which show the effectiveness of acupuncture. Some show that Cushing’s disease Acupuncture treatment can influence the production of cortisol in the body which is a major factor in Cushing’s disease, especially when given at the stomach-36 points. There are other very good acupoints for Cushing’s disease though.
